I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist that works with individuals that suffer from what is known as Impostor Phenomenon (IP). These individuals have become highly successful in their career, education, or art despite a difficult upbringing. They have doubts about their ability to maintain this success, and don't believe they are worthy or deserving of that success. Frequently, they did not have their self-worth reinforced by parents, or had parents that were very critical of them, causing them to be anxious, perfectionists, have low self-confidence and self-esteem, be overly critical of themselves, obsess over their mistakes, and exhibit OCD behaviors.
Often times we aren't conscious of the negative thinking patterns that influence our emotions and behavior. I help individuals become aware of the connection between their thoughts, feelings, and behavior. Through increased awareness we will reduce the frequency and intensity of negative thoughts, therefore, reducing the depressive or anxious feelings that accompany them.
In addition to working with individuals struggling with depression or anxiety caused by IP, I help couples communicate their needs and expectations clearly, and in a healthy manner, so that they can begin to experience the happiness that may have disappeared from their relationships.
